AR Miliaresion, 17.8mm 2.4g
Obverse: Cross Crosslet on Globus above two steps, at center, circular medallion containing facing bust of John, with short beard, wearing Crown and Loros, diving the Legend.
Reverse: Legend in 5 lines.
The hole in this coin does not detract from the elegance of the type, leaving a very clear design, portrait, and legend. With this practical defect, however, an uncommon type can be had for a fraction of the price.

Reverse: "dЄЧS Ad[IЧTA ROMA]NIS" Cross potent on base above globe and three steps.
Although it has a small break, this coin is a great example of a coin reflecting one of the most desperate times in Roman History, bearing a message on the reverse that translates to "May God Help The Romans". These types were minted with silver that was melted down from church treasures, in a desperate attempt to raise forces to fight the Sassanids. Very few types have quite as good of a story as this one.
